LE34 runs a large, multilingual website with an extensive content library, which is built and maintained by their own editors. LE34 had an overall design direction established, which they subsequently rolled out internally across the website. Webnorth rebuilt the entire frontend solution and module system based on the new design and migrated the existing content to the new solution.

As part of the process, LE34 reviewed and refined the content before launch. The new website was launched on the same infrastructure with no disruption to existing web addresses or hosting. Webnorth has worked with LE34 over a two-year partnership and continues to host, support, and develop the site after launch.

No surprises, because nothing was assumed.

Every phase was scoped and aligned with LE34 before work began, so the rebuild landed on the existing setup with content, URLs, and search visibility intact.

Analysis

Reviewed the existing website, content, functionality, and technical setup to establish a clear foundation for the project.

Design direction

The overall visual direction for the new website was established. Together with LE34, the design principles and the overall direction were aligned before the design was rolled out across the website.

Web design & technical clarification

LE34 rolled out the design internally across the website, while Webnorth worked closely with the team to clarify technical requirements and ensure the designs could be translated consistently into reusable modules and functionality.

Development

Rebuilt the complete front-end and module library on top of the existing WordPress setup, migrated the existing content, and implemented new functionality including Articles, site-wide search, animations, and micro-interactions.

Test

Conducted internal QA and design QA before handing over the staging site to LE34 for client testing. Feedback and corrections were handled iteratively to ensure the implementation matched the approved design and worked consistently across devices and browsers.

Content

Existing content was migrated into the new solution, after which LE34 reviewed and refined the content directly on the staging site in preparation for launch.

Launch preparation

Prepared the website for launch, including final technical checks, redirect updates, tracking and cookie setup, and launch coordination. The existing website was preserved separately as part of the transition.

Go-live

Launched the new front-end on the existing infrastructure, retaining existing URLs where possible and updating redirects where required to ensure a smooth transition for users and search engines.

Service & optimisation

Following launch, Webnorth continues to host, maintain, support, and develop the LE34 website as part of the ongoing service agreement.

ARCHITECTURE DECISIONS

Modernised on top of a proven WordPress core.

Three choices made before the rebuild began, each one keeping what already worked for LE34 rather than starting over, and each one still holding up in daily use.

A new front-end, not a new backend

LE34 already ran a WordPress site with a modular content system its editors knew well. Rather than rebuild everything or move to a headless setup, we kept the existing backend and content and rebuilt only the front-end and module library on top of it.

This kept the editing experience familiar and lowered the risk of the project, and it let the budget go into the new design rather than into replacing something that already worked.

Launched on the same servers, addresses unchanged

Because we already hosted the site, the new version went live on the same infrastructure with every web address kept exactly as it was. This avoided moving servers or certificates and kept the migration straightforward.

Where required, redirects were updated to ensure users and search engines were directed correctly. The result was a smooth launch with no downtime and with LE34’s existing search visibility protected

A fast, forgiving site search

The site holds many different kinds of content, from projects and services to offices and people. We built a full-screen search that copes with partial words and groups results by type – services, projects, articles, employees, offices, and sectors.

On a large, multilingual site this makes it much quicker for visitors to reach the right page.

0 minutes of downtime at launch

Existing web addresses were retained. The new front-end went live on the existing infrastructure with every web address kept as it was, so visitors and search engines never noticed the switch.

20+ reusable content modules

Editors build pages from a library of more than twenty reusable content modules, including slider, quote, USP, CTA, forms, thumbnail grids, and contact.
